Depression
Are You at Risk for Getting Alzheimer's Disease?

When I think of people who are depressed, many areas of concern come to my mind; What kinds of foods are being consumed that are assisting the feeling of being depressed, what foods could be eaten to lift depression, what is the emotional block present, what happened to the person? To balance out depression one would begin to look at the mind and incorporate healthy eating. Both of which will be explained in this article.
There are many causes of depression. A diet too low in fat, which can signal neurological imbalance’s concerns me. Maybe something happened to this person and they are having difficulty breaking through this blockage.
These are some signs and reasons why a person may be depressed. To me, it all begins in the mind, since depression occurs in the mind, this is where it can also end. The first thing about depression is that someone who suffers from this believes there is something wrong. It’s all blue feeling blue! This pattern of thinking will only feed the energy behind feeling depressed. The thing to get is that there is nothing wrong with feeling the way you do.
In Eastern philosophies sadness and depression makes up the fullness of who we are. Emotions are like cloud’s, they pass by and are constantly changing. We live in a world of material and plastic, and believe that we are not supposed to be unhappy, sad, or depressed.
So, I would suggest the very first thing to do when we begin to feel ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’ about feeling blue is to embrace it! Accept what is presently occurring for you emotionally. Nurture it. Be with it. It is many times we don’t want our emotions we are having that we resist what we feel, only adding to our frustration and potentially keeping an emotion around, like depression.
The same works for being happy. When we are happy, we are present and acknowledge happiness! But the moment it passes we might want this feeling back, an attachment that is sure to lead to feeling bad, wrong, sad, etc. Tell yourself there is nothing wrong with feeling depressed or sad, that it makes up the fullness of who I am. Maybe depression is the feeling that comes before the positive transition we are awaiting in life. A sign of change, and change is a fundamental part of our lives. Maybe resisting change can lead to depression, as mentioned above, when we resist what we are feeling, we get more of that feeling!
Next I would suggest turning to food that guides us towards healthier, happier living. Whole grains like quinoa, millet, and brown rice increase our perception and world-view, as well as offer us complex carbohydrates, B-vitamins, and stabilize blood sugar and this will balance the emotions. Add these whole grains in, real forms of whole grains, the kind you cook on the stove and the body will crowd out what it doesn’t need.
I would also take a look at the amount of ‘low-fat’ products you have in your kitchen. Fat is an important regulator in satisfaction and healthy brain function. Make sure you are eating fat. I promise it will help if getting it in healthy forms, and it doesn’t mean it will make you fat! Use hemp seed, flax seed, and fish oils to get essential fats for healthier brain function. Butter and Coconut oil are important saturated fats. Yes, saturated fats are important to the body. They support the nervous system and build support around our organs.
Third, I would begin to incorporate greens into your diet. The sturdy, leafy, greens like kale, collards, chard, mustard greens, bock choy, and some spinach. These have an energetic effect of expansion. Greens lift energy and promote circulation and are chalk full of calcium, phosphorus, iron and many vitamins.
Journal, dance, be creative people, listen to your hearts. Really begin to look around at yourself. Cook healthy foods at a pace that works for you. Trust your process. This is so important. Really get that this life is a process. When we can surrender and give up resisting what is already there and be with it, we will notice a shift. Power then is restored and we begin the process of self healing! Good luck, and may peace be your journey.
